United States Transportation Security Administration ~ While this site is geared towards U.S. travelers, it contains information helpful to all air travelers. Once at the TSA Homepage, review the Travelers and Consumers section for safety tips and guidelines, rules about locking luggage, and what to expect when you arrive at the airport and during air travel. Be sure to read the section on traveling with Hunting and Fishing Equipment, and in particular the section for rules on packing and securing firearms and ammunition. While most airlines have a per person ammunition limit of 5 kilos (11 pounds), it is important to check with your airline for any special rules they may have regarding packing firearms and ammunition. Most airlines also insist on pre-notification that you will be traveling with firearms. Be sure to call well in advance to avoid last minute issues. Know the rules, and don't expect the airline staff to be too familiar with them. Many are not, as they don't encounter travelers with firearms all that often. With security tight at most airports, the staff will be extra careful.
